How to Enable the Telnet Client in Windows 10

Telnet client is used to connect to remote computers using the Telnet protocol. For example, I am a type of old calculation, and I still like to set up Cisco switch / router with Telnet. If you started using Windows 10, you will notice that Telnet is not enabled by default! Do not panic, it’s just a few clicks, and Telnet will be activated again.

Telnet client allows the computer to connect to a remote Telnet server and run applications on that server. When you are connected you may be able to run commands that control the flow of the server. Commands that are written on the command line of the Telnet client are sent to the Telnet server and run as if they were locally connected to the command line session on the server. The executed commands are sent to the Telnet client, where they are displayed for viewing.

When you try to run the Telnet command for the first time, Windows will tell you that Telnet is not recognized as a command:

  1. To enable the Telnet client in Windows 10, follow these simple steps steps:
  2. Click the Start button, then left (right-click if you have changed the direction of the buttons) click once in the control panel.
  3. In the control panel, click on programs.
  4. In programs and features, click Enable or Disable Windows features.
  5. In the Windows properties window, use the slider to scroll down until you reach the Telnet client, select the check box next to it, and click OK.

The selected function will be installed.

After installing the Windows features, it will be closed.
To confirm that Telnet is installed, open the command prompt and enter Telnet /?

By default, the Telnet client is not included with Windows 7. To enable it, you need to add a Windows feature to Telnet client.
